There are many types of arthritis, the most common being osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The pain, soreness, stiffness and inflammation are commonly treated with medication to relive the symptoms.
Arthritis, Epsom Salt, and Magnesium
Epsom Salt is rich in Magnesium and Sulfate which have unique healing properties. Magnesium regulates more than 300 biochemical reactions in the human body and is required for the proper functioning of muscles and nerves. It prevents the arteries from hardening and reduces the amount of inflammation caused by arthritis. Magnesium possess anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties. it is also required by the human tissue cells.
Deficiency in Magnesium can lead to various types of arthritis, joint pain, and osteoporosis among other ailments. The depletion of our soils due to industrial farming over the past decades has led to increased deficiency of Magnesium in the body. Calcium and stress also contribute to lowering Magnesium levels. If calcium is taken when there is not enough Magnesium in the body, it can lead to shortage of both calcium and Magnesium in the cells.
Benefits of Epsom Salt and Magnesium in Arthritis
The Magnesium found in Epsom Salt helps relax the skeletal muscles releasing the lactic acid accumulated in the muscles. Magnesium also helps increase the rate of absorption of the vitamins in the body and plays a significant role in the function of muscles and nerves. All of these factors help reduce soreness and stiffness in the joints and muscles, one of the main symptoms of Arthritis. Epsom salt has been used for centuries across many cultures, to reduce inflammation and manage pain.
Magnesium can be absorbed through the digestive tract but it is not easily absorbed if taken in the form of supplements. One of the most effective ways to absorb Magnesium is through the skin and what better way to absorb it than soaking in 800 pounds of Epsom salt. The acid present in the stomach makes the supplements of magnesium ineffective. The advantage of taking the Epsom salt bath is that it is more readily absorbed into the body .
Floating helps relief Arthritis pain in two ways.
- The pressure points caused by gravity are removed, there is a feeling of weightlessness, and the muscles relax. When the muscles relax a state of deep relaxation is reached and the body releases Endorphins that are “Nature’s Painkillers”
Individuals suffering from Arthritis Pain are recommended to soak a towel into the water/Epsom salt solution and place it in the affected area while floating; this gives and added benefit to the float and treats the affected area.
